Most people at Glastonbury Festival sleep in a tent, and the festival says so itself. This guide is for everyone else: festival-goers who want a proper bed on the night before or after, ticket holders who are not camping, and visitors to Somerset the same week who would rather avoid the crowds. The 2027 festival runs from Wednesday 23 to Sunday 27 June, and we found no city or tourist tax on hotel rooms in Somerset, Bath or Bristol; the tax to count is VAT at the UK’s standard 20% rate.
This guide covers what the festival has published about tickets, camping and leaving the site, five bases (Glastonbury town and Street, Wells, Shepton Mallet, Bath and Bristol), 12 hotels, and the official coach and train links that connect them to Worthy Farm. The hotels are researched picks, chosen for location, what each property publishes and consistent guest feedback, and each was checked as operating in November 2026. No hotel pays to appear here.
One thing first: we are not offering a guarantee that any of these hotels will have rooms, or that any is within walking distance of the site. The festival tells people not to walk on the main A roads at night, and the hotels below are bases you travel from, not places you stroll from.
The short answer
| If you want… | Stay in | Why |
|---|---|---|
| a town with a festival shuttle in 2025 | Glastonbury and Street | The festival’s 2025 shuttle ran from Glastonbury Town Hall, and three hotels here are in or beside the town |
| a cathedral-city evening out | Wells | Two hotels, one of them on Sadler Street beside the cathedral |
| a quiet country-house night | Shepton Mallet | One spa hotel on Charlton Road, in a town the festival counts as local |
| a city with history and a spa | Bath | Three hotels, and the festival listed a Bath to Shepton Mallet bus in 2025 |
| trains, a big airport link and a direct coach | Bristol | Temple Meads, the airport bus and a National Express coach to the festival |
What the festival says about tickets, camping and leaving the site
Start with the ticket, because a hotel bed does not get you in. The festival’s information page says the next festival takes place on Worthy Farm from Wednesday 23rd June to Sunday 27th June, 2027, and that tickets for Glastonbury 2027 have now sold out, with a resale of any cancelled or returned tickets in Spring 2027. General admission tickets cost £408 including a £5 booking fee per ticket, plus postage and packing. Everyone aged 13 or over on 23 June 2027 who wishes to attend must be individually registered; the festival’s news post says registration closed at 5pm BST on Friday 25th September and will not reopen until after the October ticket sales. The balance is due in the first week of April 2027, from 9am BST on Thursday 1st April to 11.59pm BST on Wednesday 7th April.
The same page is direct about where people sleep: the vast majority of festival-goers spend their weekend under canvas, in camping fields included in the ticket price from Wednesday night until Monday morning. It lists the official options as camping, campervans and caravans, tipis and two pre-erected campsites, Worthy View and Sticklinch. It adds that no sleeping, camping or fires are allowed in the car parks.
On local beds, the festival’s wording is short. For those who do not wish to stay in a tent, it says a limited number of local property owners offer rooms or whole houses to rent over the festival period, and it points people to a contact form. It warns about unofficial off-site camping, says it cannot endorse sites other than its own, and suggests asking how far the walk is and whether it involves busy roads in the dark. It also says it does not recommend walking on the main A roads at night. Hotels in towns are not mentioned in that section, which is why we give no walking times here.
Leaving and coming back in. For adults, the festival’s arrival guidance says you must keep your ticket and wristband for re-entry if you leave the site or go to the car parks, and that if you exit during the weekend you are given a Pass Out Voucher, which you need to get back in. Pedestrian gates operate 24 hours a day from 8am on Wednesday. Anyone under 16 may not enter, leave or re-enter unaccompanied by their responsible adult, and 13 to 15-year-olds may exit and re-enter with a Parental Permission wristband. We found that guidance on the information page without a 2027 label, so confirm it before you plan a night out.
The Wednesday start. The festival’s arrival guidance, which also carries no 2027 label, says there is no amplified entertainment on the Wednesday, with the main music stages not starting until Friday. It says public transport facilities begin on Wednesday morning, and that there are no facilities at Castle Cary railway station for early arrivals. A hotel on Tuesday night lets you arrive on Wednesday morning rather than overnight.
Getting there without a car
The festival’s own advice is to use public transport, cycle or car-share, and it describes three public routes and a drop-off service. None of the hotels below depends on a car park pass.
- Coach. The festival says National Express, its coach partner, runs services from over 90 locations. Tickets bundled with coach travel have sold out, and the festival says travel on your chosen coach is mandatory to receive your ticket. Separately, it says National Express runs a direct coach service between Bristol Bus Station and the festival coach station.
- Train. The festival says the best station is Castle Cary, with a free shuttle bus for ticket holders between the station and the festival bus station, next to Pedestrian Gate A, running from Wednesday to Monday. It also says there is no parking at Castle Cary station and no left luggage, that trains from Bristol Temple Meads take around 70 minutes (sometimes changing at Westbury), and that on Sunday and Monday a bus runs from the festival bus station to Bristol Temple Meads.
- Local buses. The festival’s page shows 2025 services and says bus services for 2027 are yet to be confirmed. In 2025 it listed the 374, 375 and 376 from Bristol Temple Meads to Glastonbury town, a GF1 festival shuttle from Glastonbury Town Hall at £4.50 a single, and the 174 from Bath Bus Station to Shepton Mallet, connecting to a GF2 shuttle. Treat these as last year’s pattern.
- Drop and Collect. For lifts, the festival runs a 24-hour Drop and Collect service with a bus to Pedestrian Gate A, open to the public from 9:00am on the Tuesday before the festival until 8.00pm on the Monday after.
Flying in. The Bristol Airport Flyer A1 runs 24 hours a day with services up to every 8 minutes via Bedminster, Temple Meads and Bristol Bus Station, the airport says. We could not confirm the current fare from a page we could open, so check it before you travel.
Somerset’s hotel tax: 20% VAT, and no city tax found
| Charge | Rate in 2026-27 |
|---|---|
| VAT | 20%, the UK’s standard rate |
| City or tourist tax | None found for Somerset, Bath or Bristol |
The standard rate of VAT is 20%, which GOV.UK says applies to most goods and services. If a quoted room price includes VAT, one-sixth of it is the VAT: on a £250 room that is £41.67 (our arithmetic from the 20% rate). We could not confirm from every hotel’s own site whether its rates include VAT, so look at the total at the payment step. On 10 September 2026 the government said mayors in England will be handed the power to introduce an Overnight Visitor Levy, charged as a percentage of the cost of accommodation. We found no levy in force for Somerset, Bath or Bristol.
Glastonbury and Street: the closest towns
Glastonbury town is where the festival’s 2025 shuttle began, which is the best reason to base yourself here; check availability early. Street is the next town along, with the Bear Inn on its High Street.
Where to stay in Glastonbury and Street
How the hotel links work: a hotel’s name goes to its own website. “Check rates” opens it on Booking.com through our partner Stay22, which pays us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you.
- George & Pilgrims Hotel, comfortable. At 1 High Street, Glastonbury, with Classic rooms in 4 Poster, Double, Twin, Family Triple and Single types, all with high speed wifi, a smart TV and premium teas and coffee. Choose it for an address on the High Street. Watch out: its bedrooms page does not mention parking or any festival terms, so ask both before you book. Check rates on Booking.com →
- Premier Inn Glastonbury, budget. Free on-site parking, air conditioning in all rooms, a restaurant and breakfast. Choose it for the simplest budget bed with parking. Watch out: to qualify for the free parking you must register your vehicle on the tablet in reception, and the car park is monitored by ANPR.
- Bear Inn, Somerset by Marston’s Inns, good value. On the High Street in Street, which it calls just 2 miles from Glastonbury, with 24 en-suite rooms, some above the pub and others in cottage annexes a short walk away, kingsize Hypnos beds and free parking. Choose it for free parking and a pub on site. Watch out: some rooms are in annexes rather than the main building, and its page lists no festival-week terms or minimum stay. Check rates on Booking.com →
Wells: the cathedral city
Wells is a small cathedral city, and the festival’s page lists it among the local towns for Sunday day tickets, with Street, Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury; its Sunday bus pick-up towns are Castle Cary, Frome, Radstock, Glastonbury, Midsomer Norton, Shepton Mallet, Street and Wells. Those tickets are for residents only, so they are not a transport plan for visitors, but they show the town is part of the festival’s local picture.
Where to stay in Wells
- The Swan Hotel, comfortable. At 11 Sadler Street, which its home page places beneath the gaze of the cathedral, with limited free on-site parking through the coachway arch, municipal car parks three to five minutes’ walk away, and check-in guaranteed from 3.00pm. Choose it for a central bed beside the cathedral. Watch out: free parking is limited, and the hotel says its package offers are non-refundable and cannot be amended. Check rates on Booking.com →
- Premier Inn Wells (Somerset), budget. A restaurant with a build-your-own breakfast, and an exclusive guest parking rate of £9.60 a night in a car park managed by Horizon Parking. Choose it for a budget base in Wells. Watch out: parking is chargeable, and the page gives no festival terms.
Shepton Mallet: a country-house night
Shepton Mallet is in the festival’s inner zone for local-resident tickets, alongside Pilton and Glastonbury. We did not include a hotel in Pilton itself because we could not verify one that is open and bookable.
Where to stay in Shepton Mallet
- Montigo Resorts Somerset, splurge. On Charlton Road, at Charlton House, with 16 accommodation types listed including Deluxe, Spa Duplex and Garden Lodge, and a home page that describes countryside apartments and wellness facilities. Choose it for a quiet night away from the crowds. Watch out: its pages give no distance to the festival site, no parking details and no festival-week terms, so ask for all three. Check rates on Booking.com →
Bath: a spa city
Bath is the place to stay if the festival is one part of a week in the West Country. The festival listed a bus from Bath Bus Station to Shepton Mallet in 2025 (the 174, with a festival shuttle onward), but it says 2027 services are not confirmed, so do not plan around it yet. Check the National Express coach list for your departure point, and the festival’s page for the train route.
Where to stay in Bath
- Premier Inn Bath City Centre, budget. Next door to Kingsmead Entertainment Centre, five minutes’ walk from the Roman Baths and 10 minutes’ walk from Bath Spa station, its page says. Choose it for the lowest price in the city centre. Watch out: there is no on-site parking; chargeable off-site parking is at the Southgate Shopping Centre car park.
- Hotel Indigo Bath, comfortable. At 2-8 South Parade, with 154 bedrooms in five room styles, all with Hypnos beds, Nespresso machines and air conditioning. Choose it for a Georgian building and a larger hotel. Watch out: the rooms page gives no parking details or festival-week terms. Check rates on Booking.com →
- The Gainsborough Bath Spa, splurge. On Beau Street, a five-star hotel with its own Spa Village; its contact page says parking is limited, costs £40 a night and must be booked in advance. Choose it to splurge on a spa stay before or after the festival. Watch out: it advises booking direct for offers, and the car park is very limited, so reserve with the concierge. Check rates on Booking.com →
Bristol: trains, the airport and a direct coach
Bristol is the best base if you are flying in or want one of the festival’s named links. The festival says National Express runs a direct coach between Bristol Bus Station and the festival coach station, names Bristol Temple Meads as the starting point for its Sunday and Monday station bus, and says the train from Temple Meads to Castle Cary takes around 70 minutes. Two of the three Bristol hotels below, Finzels Reach and the Novotel, say they are close to Temple Meads.
Where to stay in Bristol
- Premier Inn Bristol City Centre (Finzels Reach), budget. In the heart of the city, close to Bristol Temple Meads station, its page says. Choose it for the cheapest bed beside the station. Watch out: there is no on-site parking; chargeable off-site parking is at NCP Bristol Broadmead, an 8-minute walk away.
- Novotel Bristol Centre, comfortable. On Victoria Street, close to Bristol Temple Meads Train Station, 4-star, with parking charged at £17 per 24 hours. Choose it for a full-service hotel close to the trains. Watch out: the hotel is cashless, and parking is chargeable. Check rates on Booking.com →
- Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel, comfortable. On College Green, with check-in from 3:00 pm, on-site parking and pets welcome. Choose it for a central base on College Green. Watch out: check-out is 12:00 pm, and its overview page gives no festival-week terms. Check rates on Booking.com →
How to book Glastonbury week
- Book after you have a ticket, and know your dates. The festival’s tickets have sold out, with a resale in Spring 2027 and a ticket refund deadline of 23:59 on 7 May 2027. Choose a hotel rate you can cancel until the resale is over.
- Ask about minimum stays. None of the 12 official pages we read states a minimum stay or festival-week terms. That is not the same as there being none, so ask the hotel before you pay.
- Plan the leaving day. The festival says the Sunday and Monday buses to Castle Cary and Bristol Temple Meads are timetabled to arrive before the last train, so check train times before you choose your last night.
- Count the tax and the car. VAT is 20%, and several of these hotels charge for parking, so compare totals. Our hotel booking sites compared goes through where to book, and hotel taxes around the world sets the UK beside other countries.
- Avoid third-party tickets. The festival says it does not issue Print at home or eTickets for entry and that any tickets offered that way are a scam, so treat any hotel package that includes a ticket with particular care.

Frequently asked questions
When is Glastonbury Festival in 2027?
The festival's information page says the next Glastonbury Festival takes place on Worthy Farm from Wednesday 23rd June to Sunday 27th June, 2027. Tickets for Glastonbury 2027 have sold out, and the festival says there will be a resale of cancelled or returned tickets in Spring 2027.
Do I need to camp at Glastonbury?
No rule makes you camp, but the festival says the vast majority of festival-goers spend the weekend under canvas, in camping fields included in the ticket price from Wednesday night until Monday morning. It also lists campervans, tipis and two pre-erected campsites, and says a limited number of local property owners rent rooms or houses during the festival.
Can I leave and re-enter the site if I stay in a hotel?
The festival's information page says that if you exit the site during the weekend you are given a Pass Out Voucher, which you need to get back in, and that you must keep your ticket and wristband for re-entry. That text carries no 2027 label, so check it before you plan a night out. Under-16s may not enter, leave or re-enter unaccompanied.
How do I get to Glastonbury Festival by public transport?
The festival says National Express runs coaches from over 90 locations, including a direct service between Bristol Bus Station and the festival coach station, and that coach-ticket packages have sold out. By train, it names Castle Cary as the best station, with a free shuttle bus for ticket holders to the festival bus station from Wednesday to Monday. Bus services for 2027 are yet to be confirmed.
Is there a hotel tax in Somerset, Bath or Bristol?
We found no city or tourist tax on hotel rooms there. VAT at the UK's standard rate of 20% applies to most goods and services. On 10 September 2026 the government said mayors in England will be handed the power to introduce an Overnight Visitor Levy, and we found none in force for Somerset, Bath or Bristol.
Where is the best place to stay near Glastonbury Festival?
It depends on how you travel. Glastonbury town is where the festival's 2025 shuttle began, Wells and Shepton Mallet are quieter, and Bath and Bristol suit people using the coach, the train or the airport. We give no walking times, and the festival advises against walking on main A roads at night.
