Gently Yonder is an independent travel-prep editorial project. We collect the minimum information needed to understand what content is useful, and to fund the project through affiliate revenue. This page explains what is collected, why, and how to opt out.
1. Analytics
Gently Yonder uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to measure aggregate traffic — for example, how many people read a country profile or which articles get shared. GA4 sets cookies on your browser and sends data to Google.
We have enabled IP anonymisation, which means the last octet of your IP address is removed before storage. We do not use GA4's advertising features, audience remarketing, or Google Signals. We do not link analytics to any other identifier you may have.
You can opt out of GA4 site-wide by installing Google's official opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking analytics cookies through your browser settings or a privacy extension.
2. Affiliate links
Gently Yonder participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Associates Programme and the Awin Publisher Network. When you click an affiliate link and complete a qualifying purchase, the merchant may pay Gently Yonder a small commission. This does not change the price you pay.
Affiliate links are tagged in the URL (for example, ?tag=packlightpick-20)
and may set tracking cookies from the merchant. These cookies are governed by the
merchant's own privacy policy, not by Gently Yonder.
We disclose the use of affiliate links in our articles and never accept payment in exchange for a favourable review.
3. Newsletter signups
Our newsletter signup form is hosted by Tally. When you submit your email address, it is stored by Tally and used only to send the Gently Yonder newsletter. We do not share email addresses with advertisers or other third parties.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter message, or by emailing us through the link in our footer.
4. Server logs
Gently Yonder is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may collect standard server logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL) for security and abuse prevention. We do not control or access these logs directly. See the GitHub Privacy Statement for details.
5. Embedded content
Some articles embed third-party content, such as map widgets, video players, or social embeds. These services may set their own cookies and collect data according to their own privacy policies. We try to keep embedded content to a minimum.
6. Children's privacy
Gently Yonder is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us so we can delete it.
7. Your rights (EEA / UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to restrict or object to certain types of processing. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us through the link in our footer.
8. Changes to this policy
We update this page when our practices change. The "last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Significant changes will also be noted in our newsletter.
