For Wimbledon, the hotel choice is mostly a transport choice. The Championships 2027 run from 28 June to 11 July, the grounds sit between three Tube and rail stations, and the walk from the nearest Tube stop is a quarter of an hour. London has no city tax on hotel rooms that we could find; the charge to count is VAT at the UK’s standard 20% rate.
This guide covers the dates, the Queue and the ballot as the organiser describes them, how people reach the grounds, five areas, 12 hotels, and the tax. For the rest of your trip, where to stay in London covers five central areas and 12 hotels. The hotels are researched picks, chosen for location, what each property publishes and consistent guest feedback, and each was checked as operating in November 2026. No hotel pays to appear here.

The 2027 Championships: dates, the ballot and the Queue
The organiser’s ballot page says it is celebrating 150 years of The Championships, which run from 28 June to 11 July 2027. That is the date to plan around. We found no published day-by-day schedule for 2027, so the nights you need depend on which day your ticket is for.
The public ballot. The page says the Wimbledon Public Ballot for The Championships 2027 has now closed, and that you should sign up to myWimbledon to hear about other ticket options. It says you cannot ask for specific days, courts or seats, and that only one application is accepted per household, per email address and per myWimbledon account. Those who were unsuccessful in the ballot are granted access to the returns shop, where tickets may be bought in the lead-up to The Championships. The organiser also says tickets must not be sold, transferred or advertised for sale or transfer, and that any advertised tickets will be void, so buy only through the official routes.
The Queue. The Queue’s own page was still showing last year’s details when we checked, and we found no 2027 start time, so what follows describes 2026. A daily Queue offers limited Show Court and Grounds tickets, sold at one per person and non-transferable. It starts in Wimbledon Park, which the page calls a five-minute walk from Southfields station. Last year it opened at 2pm on the Sunday before the tournament began, guests joined the end of the line and were given a dated, numbered Queue card, and wristbands for Centre Court, No.1 Court and No.2 Court tickets were issued from 7.30am. The page warns that a Queue card does not guarantee entry if the grounds have reached capacity, and asks people not to travel without checking the Queue status on wimbledon.com first.
If you plan to queue, the practical effect on your hotel is the early start. Plan how you will reach Wimbledon Park first thing in the morning, and check first-train times with TfL for your own station.
Getting there: Southfields, Wimbledon or the shuttle
The organiser’s help page says three stations surround the main site. Southfields (District line) is a 15 minute walk to the grounds, Wimbledon (District line, South Western Railway and London Trams) is a 20 minute walk, and Wimbledon Park (District line) is a 25 minute walk. National Rail’s Championships page, which was written for 2026, calls Southfields step-free and Wimbledon the nearest National Rail station, also with step-free access.
- By train. National Rail says South Western Railway services take approximately 16 minutes between London Waterloo and Wimbledon, and that Thameslink trains from London St Pancras International and London Blackfriars also call at Wimbledon. It suggests buying a through ticket to Wimbledon station.
- By shuttle bus. The page says a dedicated Championships bus service runs from Wimbledon station to the grounds. That is the 2026 arrangement; we found no 2027 timetable or fare, so check the organiser’s travel pages closer to the date.
- By car. Merton Council’s page, written for 29 June to 12 July 2026, says there are parking restrictions throughout Wimbledon Village, Wimbledon Park and parts of the town centre, affecting all motorists including minicabs and private hire vehicles. If a hotel’s parking matters to you, ask it how the restrictions work in 2027.
Wimbledon Village and the Common: on foot to the gates
The Village sits on the edge of Wimbledon Common, and the hotels here are the ones that can credibly say walk. The trade-off is that they are pubs and a manor house rather than large hotels, so rooms are few and you should expect them to fill early. We did not verify a walking time from any of these hotels to the grounds or to a station.
Where to stay in Wimbledon Village and the Common
How the hotel links work: a hotel’s name goes to its own website. “Check rates” opens it on Booking.com through our partner Stay22, which pays us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you.
- Hotel du Vin Cannizaro House, splurge. A Georgian manor at West Side Common, set within the 34 acres of Cannizaro Park next to Wimbledon Common, and, in the hotel’s words, within walking distance of the All England Lawn Tennis Club. It has The Orangery restaurant, which it describes as exceptional dining with spectacular views. Choose it for the grandest walkable base. Watch out: it is cashless, taking cards and digital payments only, and its page gives no walking time. Check rates on Booking.com →
- Dog & Fox, comfortable. At 24 High Street in the Village, with 25 bedrooms above the pub, check-in at 3pm and check-out at 11am, and a dog-friendly welcome. Young’s listed it among its pubs with rooms for the 2026 Championships. Choose it for a pub with rooms in the middle of the Village. Watch out: it shows live sport, and Young’s says its pubs will be showing the tennis with big screens, so ask for a quiet room. Check rates on Booking.com →
- The Rose & Crown, comfortable. At 55 High Street, a traditional village pub and hotel beside Wimbledon Common, with rooms above the pub. Young’s listed it too. Choose it for the Common on your doorstep. Watch out: its own page gives no room count, so confirm the room you are booking. Check rates on Booking.com →
Wimbledon town centre: station, trams and shops
The Broadway has the town’s stations and shopping, and it is where the shuttle bus starts. Staying here means you can reach Waterloo in about 16 minutes by train, and you walk or take the bus to the grounds.
Where to stay in Wimbledon town centre
- Premier Inn London Wimbledon (Broadway), budget. At 153-163 The Broadway, a 6-minute walk from Wimbledon station, 11 minutes from South Wimbledon Tube and 1.2 miles from Wimbledon Village by the hotel’s own page. Air conditioning in all rooms, and chargeable off-site parking nearby at £1.00 every 30 minutes, free between 23:00 and 08:00. Choose it for the lowest price beside the station. Watch out: the page gives no walking time to the grounds, and parking is off site.
- Antoinette Hotel, good value. On The Broadway, which it calls the largest independently owned hotel in Wimbledon, with individually air-conditioned bedrooms and secure parking on a first come, first served basis. Its Snug doubles are smaller rooms that it pitches as exceptional value for a one or two night stay. Choose it for an independent hotel with parking. Watch out: its page gives no walking time to the station or the grounds, and parking is first come, first served.
Southfields and Putney: the nearest Tube, but few hotels we could confirm
Southfields is the station the organiser’s help page puts nearest the grounds on the Tube, at 15 minutes on foot, and the Queue page puts the Queue itself five minutes from it. TfL lists the station in Zone 3. We looked for hotels here and in Putney and could not confirm an operating one on its own official site, so we name none. Earl’s Court and South Kensington, further down this guide, are on the same District line.
Richmond: the riverside base
Richmond is a river town, quieter than Wimbledon in the evening and a different kind of stay. We did not verify a journey time from Richmond to Southfields or Wimbledon, so plan it on TfL’s journey planner for your dates before you commit.
Where to stay in Richmond
- The Petersham Hotel, splurge. On Richmond Hill, with 61 individually decorated bedrooms, views of Petersham Meadows and the Thames, and The Petersham Restaurant. Choose it for a view and a long dinner after a day of tennis. Watch out: its page gives no distance to a station or to the grounds. Check rates on Booking.com →
- Bingham Riverhouse, comfortable. At 61-63 Petersham Road, a boutique hotel with a riverside restaurant, bar and members’ club. Choose it for a riverside evening. Watch out: its page gives no room count, and no distance to a station or to the grounds. Check rates on Booking.com →
Earl’s Court and South Kensington: the District line from a museum district
TfL lists both Earl’s Court and South Kensington as District line stations, and the District line is the one that reaches Southfields, Wimbledon Park and Wimbledon. These two areas suit a trip where Wimbledon is one day of several, because the museums, shops and the rest of central London are close. We did not verify a journey time from either station to Southfields, so check TfL’s journey planner for your dates.
Where to stay in Earl’s Court and South Kensington
- Premier Inn London Kensington (Earl’s Court), budget. Next to Earl’s Court station and close to the Natural History Museum and the Royal Albert Hall, with a restaurant, breakfast and free Wi-Fi. Choose it for the lowest price on the District line. Watch out: there is no on-site parking.
- The Ampersand Hotel, splurge. At 10 Harrington Road, South Kensington, with ornithologically inspired Deluxe Rooms that have floor-to-ceiling windows, the Apero restaurant under Victorian cellar arches, and up to two dogs welcome in each room. Choose it for a base close to South Kensington’s museums. Watch out: its site gives no journey time to Southfields, so plan that on TfL’s journey planner. Check rates on Booking.com →
Near Waterloo: the fast train out
South Western Railway trains between Waterloo and Wimbledon take approximately 16 minutes, according to National Rail, so a hotel near Waterloo is the simplest central choice if you want to leave the grounds and be back on the South Bank for dinner. The last leg is still a walk or the shuttle bus from Wimbledon station.
Where to stay near Waterloo
- Park Plaza London Waterloo, comfortable. At 6 Hercules Road, which the hotel describes as 10 minutes or less from London Waterloo and a two-minute walk from Lambeth North Tube station. Check-in is from 3:00pm and check-out is at 12:00pm. Choose it for a hotel on the South Bank. Watch out: Lambeth North is not the station for the Wimbledon trains, so you walk to Waterloo. Check rates on Booking.com →
- Premier Inn London County Hall, budget. Inside the Grade II listed County Hall on the South Bank, which the hotel says is only about an eight-minute walk from Waterloo station. Choose it for a cheap bed beside the river. Watch out: there is no on-site parking, and off-site parking is £15 for 12 hours. Check rates on Booking.com →
- Premier Inn London Waterloo (Westminster Bridge), budget. At 85 York Road, a 5 minute walk from Waterloo rail and underground station, next to Westminster Bridge. Choose it for the shortest walk to the Wimbledon trains. Watch out: there is no on-site parking, and the nearby car park is £15 per 12 hours, paid in cash on the day or booked online.
London’s hotel tax: 20% VAT, and no city tax yet
| Charge | Rate in 2026-27 |
|---|---|
| VAT | 20%, the UK’s standard rate |
| City or tourist tax | None found |
The standard rate of VAT is 20%, which GOV.UK says applies to most goods and services. If a quoted room price includes VAT, one-sixth of it is the VAT: on a £250 room that is £41.67 (our arithmetic from the 20% rate). We could not confirm from the hotels’ own sites whether each rate includes VAT, so look at the total at the payment step. On 10 September 2026 the government said mayors in England will be handed the power to introduce an Overnight Visitor Levy, a fee on overnight stays, charged as a percentage of the cost of accommodation, and the Mayor of London said he strongly welcomed the power for London. We found no levy in force for London.
How to book Wimbledon
- Count the nights from your ticket. The fortnight is 28 June to 11 July 2027, and the ballot has closed, so book rooms only once you know which day you are attending. Read the cancellation terms before you pay.
- Choose your route first. The grounds are a 15 minute walk from Southfields, 20 from Wimbledon station and 25 from Wimbledon Park, and we did not verify walking times from any hotel here to the gates.
- Plan for the Queue. If you will queue, expect a very early start, and check first-train times with TfL for your station.
- Check parking. Merton’s 2026 restrictions covered the Village, Wimbledon Park and parts of the town centre; ask a hotel how 2027 will work.
- Compare totals. Our hotel booking sites compared goes through where to book, and hotel taxes around the world sets London beside other cities. We did not check room prices or availability for the fortnight.
