Mykonos adds a Greek hotel fee of €2 to €15 per room per night in the season, and where you sleep decides most of the rest: Mykonos Town is on foot, the beaches are a bus ride away, and the ferries land at a port 2 km from the town. Cruise passengers pay a separate fee of their own, which is worth knowing when the port is full.

This guide covers six areas, from Mykonos Town to Ano Mera, 12 hotels, the way in from the airport and the ports, and the fee. The hotels are researched picks, chosen for location, what each property publishes and consistent guest feedback, and each was checked as operating in November 2026. No hotel pays to appear here.

Mykonos’s hotel fee, and the cruise crowds

Hotels in Greece, Mykonos included, charge the climate crisis resilience fee, which replaced the old accommodation tax. The rates for hotels are set in article 44 of Law 5177/2025 (Government Gazette, issue A’ 21, 14 February 2025), and the tax authority, AADE, still cites that article in its guidance of January 2026. The law sets one scale for the whole country; the fee is charged per room per night, and the amount depends on the hotel’s stars and on the month:

Hotel category April to October November to March
1 and 2 stars €2 €0.50
3 stars €5 €1.50
4 stars €10 €3
5 stars €15 €4

The hotel collects the fee after the stay and before departure and issues a separate receipt for it. The fee carries no VAT, and it is not charged when the stay itself is free. We found no amendment to these rates after the January 2026 guidance, but Greek rules change, so confirm with the hotel.

Worked example (our arithmetic): four nights in July at a five-star hotel cost 4 × €15 = €60 in fee, whether one person or three share the room; at a three-star hotel the same four nights cost 4 × €5 = €20. Among our picks, Petasos Beach Resort & Spa describes itself as a 5 Star Hotel, so it falls in the €15 line in season.

The cruise crowds. Some of the day visitors in Mykonos Town arrive by cruise ship, and Greece taxes them separately. Under article 27 of Law 5162/2024, a cruise passenger who disembarks at Santorini or Mykonos pays €20 from 1 June to 30 September, €12 in October and from 1 April to 31 May, and €4 from 1 November to 31 March. That fee is on the cruise ticket, not on your hotel bill. If you are island-hopping, where to stay in Santorini covers the same fee and the same cruise charge there.

Getting in, and around

Mykonos Town: Little Venice, the windmills and the walk

Mykonos Town, also called Chora, is where the island’s lanes, shops and harbour are, and the one base where you can do an evening without a bus. Little Venice is the waterfront row of old houses over the sea, the windmills stand on the ridge above it, and the Old Port and the Fabrika bus station are in the town.

How the hotel links work: a hotel’s name goes to its own website. “Check rates” opens it on Booking.com through our partner Stay22, which pays us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you.

Ornos: a sandy bay a short bus ride away

Ornos is a bay on the south coast. The Municipal Port Fund’s page for the port of Ornos puts it 3.5 km from Mykonos Town, and KTEL’s timetable lists a Fabrika to Ornos and Agios Ioannis route. It suits a beach holiday.

Platis Gialos and Psarou: the south-coast beaches

Platis Gialos and Psarou are neighbouring beaches east of Ornos, on the south coast. KTEL’s Fabrika to Platis Gialos route is in its timetable, and the Port Fund has a page for the Platis Gialos port.

Agios Stefanos: a quieter bay on the north side

Agios Stefanos is a beach on the north side of the island, closer to the New Port than to the south-coast beaches. KTEL’s timetable lists an Old Port to Agios Stefanos route.

Kalafatis and Ano Mera: the quiet side

Kalafatis is a bay on the south-east coast, and Ano Mera is the inland village. KTEL’s timetable lists Old Port routes to both, and it adds a note that services to and from Ano Mera, Kalafati and Elia run from what it calls the New Peripheral, so check the departure point for these routes on the day. It suits a quiet week, not evenings in town.

Paradise and Super Paradise: beach clubs and late nights

Paradise and Super Paradise are beaches on the south-coast side where beach clubs and nightlife are part of the day. A hotel here is a choice for that scene: the hotel’s own page names Tropicana and Cavo Paradiso as close by. KTEL’s timetable lists a Fabrika to Paradise route and a Fabrika to Super Paradise route, the second run by Idea Tours.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Mykonos for a first trip?

Mykonos Town, also called Chora: Little Venice, the windmills and the Old Port are in the town, and you can do an evening without a bus. Choose Ornos or Platis Gialos for a beach, Agios Stefanos for a quieter bay, Kalafatis and Ano Mera for the quiet side, and Paradise for beach clubs and late nights.

What is the hotel fee in Mykonos?

Greek hotels charge the climate crisis resilience fee per room per night under article 44 of Law 5177/2025: €2 for 1 and 2 stars, €5 for 3, €10 for 4 and €15 for 5 stars from April to October, and €0.50, €1.50, €3 and €4 from November to March. Four nights at a five-star hotel in July add 4 × €15 = €60.

How do you get from Mykonos airport to town?

KTEL Mykonos's timetable page lists a Fabrika to Airport bus route and an Airport to New Port route, but prints no fares, so check the price when you buy the ticket. In winter, check your day: the airport says its runway will be reconstructed for 24 hours every Thursday from November 19, 2026 to March 18, 2027 (except 23, 24 and 31 December and 6 and 7 January), and flights are suspended.

Which port do ferries use in Mykonos?

The New Port at Tourlos, on the north-west coast and 2 km from the traditional harbour in front of Mykonos Town, according to the state-owned Growth Fund. The Old Port is the traditional harbour in the town. The pages we read do not say which ferries use which port, so check the port printed on your ticket.

Do cruise passengers pay a fee in Mykonos?

Yes. Under article 27 of Law 5162/2024, a cruise passenger who disembarks at Santorini or Mykonos pays €20 from 1 June to 30 September, €12 in October and from 1 April to 31 May, and €4 from 1 November to 31 March. It is on the cruise ticket, not on your hotel bill.

Are Mykonos hotels open in winter?

Check with the hotel. Hotels on a seasonal island can close in winter, and none of the 12 hotel sites we read printed closing dates in text we could read. Belvedere's page was selling October and November stays when we checked in November 2026.
