Seville adds no tourist tax to the hotel bill in October 2026. The mayor has asked the Junta de Andalucía for one, and the Junta has so far refused, so the only tax on your room is Spain’s 10% VAT. What shapes the bill instead is the heat and the walking: the old centre is compact, but the average daytime high at Seville airport is 36.0 °C in July, so where you sleep decides how much of the day you spend in the sun.

This guide covers five areas, from Santa Cruz to the Santa Justa station, 12 hotels, the airport links and what the bill really includes. The hotels are researched picks, chosen for location, what each property publishes and consistent guest feedback, and each was checked as operating in October 2026. No hotel pays to appear here.

Seville’s hotel tax: there is none, only VAT

No tourist tax is in force in Seville or anywhere in Andalusia as we write. The Junta de Andalucía’s own list of the region’s taxes names an ecological tax, a tax on customer deposits in credit institutions, a single-use plastic bag tax and an improvement levy, and none of them is a tax on tourist stays. We found no decree or official bulletin that creates one.

Charge In Seville, October 2026
Tourist tax None in force
VAT (IVA) on hotel rooms 10%, Spain’s reduced rate for hospitality services
Spain’s standard VAT rate, for comparison 21%

A proposal is not a law. On 5 August 2026 the mayor, José Luis Sanz, said he would ask the Junta’s tourism councillor, Manuel Gavira, for a tourist tax or a similar source of extra funding, and the press reported on 18 September that he raised it again at a meeting. The Junta, according to those reports, maintains its refusal, and business groups oppose the tax. Until the Junta approves and publishes a rule, nothing changes on your bill.

Worked example (our arithmetic): a double room at €120 before VAT, for three nights, costs 3 × €120 × 1.10 = €396, with nothing added for tourist tax. Check whether the rate you are comparing already includes the 10%. Barcelona charges a tourist tax and Madrid does not; hotel taxes around the world compares more cities.

Getting in from the airport, and around

Santa Cruz: the Cathedral at the door

Santa Cruz was Seville’s Jewish quarter until the expulsion of 1492, and its winding streets, small squares and courtyards have survived. The city’s tourist office calls it a high-traffic tourist area and asks visitors to respect its residents. That is the price of the location: the Cathedral, the Giralda and the Real Alcázar are all within a few minutes’ walk.

How the hotel links work: a hotel’s name goes to its own website. “Check rates” opens it on Booking.com through our partner Stay22, which pays us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you.

Centro and El Arenal: Plaza Nueva and the river

Plaza Nueva has been the seat of civil power for centuries and is home to the City Hall. From there the Sierpes and Tetuán streets run through the city’s busiest shopping area, and the Plaza de Armas bus station is close by. Towards the river, El Arenal was the city’s main port in the Middle Ages; the Torre del Oro, the Hospital de la Caridad and the Maestranza bullring and theatre are here.

Triana: across the river

Triana, on the far bank of the Guadalquivir, began as a suburb outside the walls and is known as the home of potters, sailors and flamenco artists. Calle Betis runs along the river with views of the Cathedral and the Torre del Oro, and the tourist office points visitors to the Triana ceramics centre and to the peñas and tablaos where flamenco is performed live. The 19th-century Triana Bridge connects it to the centre.

Alameda de Hércules and La Macarena: bars and music

The Alameda de Hércules, opened in 1574, is considered the oldest public promenade in Europe. It takes its name from the two Roman columns at its southern end, topped by Hercules and Julius Caesar. After a period of decline it was renovated in 2008 and is now part of the city’s alternative scene, with terraces, music venues, bookshops and street art; the tourist office advises going in the late afternoon or at sunset. It lies in La Macarena, the neighbourhood of the Macarena basilica and one of the best-preserved stretches of the 12th-century Almohad city walls.

Santa Justa: the station base

Santa Justa is in Nervión, east of the historic centre. The station is Spain’s third busiest after Madrid-Atocha and Barcelona-Sants, with more than 12.7 million passengers in 2024, and the airport bus stops here. It is not the old quarter, and the hotels near it say so: one counts a 15-minute walk to the historic centre, another 20 minutes to Santa Cruz and the Giralda. For a day trip on an early train it is the easiest base in the city.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Seville for a first trip?

Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter beside the Cathedral, the Giralda and the Real Alcázar, all within a few minutes' walk. The city's tourist office calls it a high-traffic area. Choose Centro and El Arenal for Plaza Nueva and the river, Triana for the other bank, the Alameda for bars and music, and Santa Justa for early trains.

Is there a tourist tax in Seville?

No. In October 2026 no tourist tax is in force in Seville or anywhere in Andalusia: the Junta de Andalucía's list of its own taxes includes none on tourist stays. The mayor has asked the Junta for one, and the Junta maintains its refusal, so it is a proposal, not a law.

How much VAT is charged on a hotel room in Seville?

10%, the reduced rate Spain applies to hospitality services; the standard rate is 21%. As our own arithmetic, a double at €120 before VAT for three nights costs 3 × €120 × 1.10 = €396. Check whether the rate you are comparing already includes the 10%.

How do you get from Seville airport to the centre?

By TUSSAM's airport bus, line EA: €6 single or €8 return, with stops that include Santa Justa station, the Prado de San Sebastián and Plaza de Armas. By taxi the fare is fixed: €26 on weekdays from 07:00 to 21:00 and €29 at night, on weekends and public holidays, in Holy Week and during the April Fair.

Where should you stay for day trips by train?

Near Santa Justa station, in Nervión, east of the historic centre. The ibis Styles hotel is 500 m and a 5-minute walk from the station and 2 minutes from the EA airport bus. Renfe's route pages give 06:50 as the first departure to Córdoba and to Málaga. The old quarter is a 15 to 20 minute walk.

When is Seville hottest, and does it affect hotel choice?

July and August: AEMET's 1981–2010 averages give a daytime high of 36.0 °C in July and 35.5 °C in August at Seville airport, with almost no rain. Check pool months before you pay for a pool: Catalonia Santa Justa's is closed from 31 October to 31 March, and ibis Styles' from 6 January to 12 February 2027.
