Busan spreads along its coast, and the choice of base comes down to what you want outside the door: a beach, a bridge, a subway hub or the trains. Haeundae has the long beach and most of the big hotels; Gwangalli, the next beach west, faces Gwangan Bridge, with a drone show over the water every Saturday night and the city’s fireworks festival on 7 November 2026; Seomyeon is where the two main subway lines cross; and Busan Station, where the KTX from Seoul arrives, is two stops from the old port of Nampo.

This guide covers the airport, four areas and nine hotels, from a tower at the end of Haeundae Beach to a business hotel a minute from the KTX, with the dates of the drone show and the fireworks and two things that save money: no K-ETA in 2026 for visitors from 22 countries and regions, and a VAT refund on rooms at designated hotels. The hotels are researched picks, chosen for location, what each property publishes and consistent guest feedback, and each was checked as operating at the start of October 2026. No hotel pays to appear here.

Getting in, and two things to know

Gimhae International Airport is west of the city. Airport limousine buses leave from platform 3 on the first floor of both terminals, and take credit cards only:

From Gimhae Airport By Adult fare
Haeundae, along the beach Limousine, about hourly, first 7.10am, last 9.40pm ₩9,500
Seomyeon, stopping at the Lotte Hotel Limousine, about every 70 minutes, first 7.20am, last 9.30pm ₩6,000

The Busan-Gimhae light rail also runs from the airport and meets the subway at Sasang, on line 2, and Daejeo, on line 3. From Seoul, the KTX arrives at Busan Station; is a KORAIL Pass worth it? prices the trip.

Haeundae: the beach, on a first trip

Haeundae is Busan’s best-known beach, with Dongbaek Island at its western end and the towers of LCT at its eastern end, and most of the city’s big hotels in between. The airport limousine runs along it, Haeundae Station on line 2 is a short walk inland, and line 2 runs west to Gwangalli and Seomyeon. For a first trip, this is the base that puts the sea at the door.

Where to stay in Haeundae

How the hotel links work: a hotel’s name goes to its own website. “Check rates” opens it on Booking.com through our partner Stay22, which pays us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you.

Gwangalli: the bridge, the drone show and the fireworks

Gwangalli faces Gwangan Bridge across the bay, and at night the bridge and the beachfront bars are lit. Two events are worth planning around:

Gwangan and Geumnyeonsan stations, on line 2, serve the beach.

Where to stay in Gwangalli

Seomyeon: the subway hub

Seomyeon is a shopping and eating district at the centre of the subway map: lines 1 and 2 cross here, so Busan Station and Nampo, on line 1, and Gwangalli and Haeundae, on line 2, are each a single ride away. The airport limousine stops at the Lotte Hotel. It has no beach; stay here to spread your days across the city.

Where to stay in Seomyeon

Busan Station: the KTX and the old port

Busan Station is where the KTX and SRT trains from Seoul arrive, and line 1 runs two stops south to Nampo, the old port, with Jagalchi Market and Gukje Market. Stay here for an early train or a late arrival; for the beaches, you ride east.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Busan for a first trip?

Haeundae: the long beach is at the door, the airport limousine runs along it, and subway line 2 runs west to Gwangalli and Seomyeon. Choose Gwangalli for Gwangan Bridge and the drone show, Seomyeon for the subway hub where lines 1 and 2 cross, and Busan Station for the KTX.

Haeundae or Seomyeon: which is better?

Haeundae if the beach is the point of the trip. Seomyeon if you want to spread your days across the city: lines 1 and 2 cross there, so Busan Station and Nampo, and Gwangalli and Haeundae, are each a single ride away.

When is the Busan Fireworks Festival in 2026?

The 21st Busan Fireworks Festival is on Saturday 7 November 2026, at Gwangalli Beach, Igidae and Dongbaek Island. Paid seats are sold through NOL Ticket until 5pm on 6 November.

When is the Gwangalli drone show?

Every Saturday evening over Gwangalli Beach, with about 1,100 drones, at 7pm and 9pm from October to February.

How do I get from Gimhae Airport to Haeundae?

The airport limousine to Haeundae leaves from platform 3 on the first floor of both terminals, about hourly from 7.10am to 9.40pm, for ₩9,500, credit card only. The Busan-Gimhae light rail also meets the subway at Sasang, on line 2.

Do I need a K-ETA to visit Busan in 2026?

Not if you hold a passport from one of the 22 exempt countries and regions, among them the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Japan: Korea has extended the exemption to 31 December 2026. You fill in an arrival card instead.
