Seoul’s cherry trees come early and go fast, and the two big blossom festivals sit at opposite ends of the city: Yeouido, on the island in the Han River, and Seokchon Lake, in Jamsil. In 2026 the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) recorded the first flowers on 29 March, ten days earlier than its normal of 8 April. We found no city tourist tax on a Seoul hotel room, so the thing that decides your trip is the timing, and the area you sleep in decides how many subway changes you make between the two sets of trees.
This guide covers the dates to aim for, five areas weighed by how they connect to Yeouido and Seokchon Lake, a note on Seongsu, twelve hotels to start with, and how to book so that an early or late spring does not cost you. The hotels are researched picks, chosen for location, what each property publishes and consistent guest feedback, and each was checked as operating at the end of October 2026. No hotel pays to appear here.

When to go: the dates to aim for
The averages are a guide, not a promise. By the KMA’s records for the observation tree it uses for Seoul:
| Year | First flowers | Full bloom |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | 8 April | 10 April |
| 2025 | 4 April | 10 April |
| 2026 | 29 March | not given in the KMA’s 29 March release |
The KMA counts a tree as flowering when three or more blossoms have opened on a branch, and as in full bloom when 80 per cent or more of the tree is open. Its release also gave Yeouido’s Yunjung-ro: first flowers on 3 April and full bloom on 7 April in 2025, and first flowers on 29 March in 2026. That 2026 date was six days earlier than Seoul’s 2025 date. The Korea Herald reported on 3 April 2026 that Yeouido had reached full bloom earlier that week, which means that in 2026 the trees peaked before the festivals opened.
Those festival dates are last year’s. In 2026 the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival ran from 3 to 7 April along Yeouiseo-ro, with Yeongdeungpo-gu and the Yeongdeungpo Culture Foundation running it, and Songpa-gu’s Seokchon Lake cherry blossom festival ran from 3 to 11 April, with a lighting ceremony on the evening of 3 April. We do not yet have dates for 2027, and both districts fix theirs close to the season, so do not book around them.
We have not seen any 2027 bloom forecast and you should not trust one published this early; forecasts appear in late winter. Until then, the sensible window runs from the end of March to the middle of April, and four or five nights beat two perfectly timed ones. That is our suggestion, not a forecast.
What pushes the price up in April
There is no separate city tourist tax on a Seoul hotel room that we could find in any official source. What is added is Korea’s value-added tax, which the National Tax Service sets at 10 per cent, and many hotels quote their rates with it already included. Whether the price you see includes it depends on the hotel, so check whether a rate is shown before or after tax and ask for the all-in total if it says “plus”.
A worked example, our arithmetic: a room quoted at ₩300,000 before tax carries ₩30,000 of VAT, so it costs ₩330,000 a night and ₩1,650,000 for five nights. A room quoted at ₩330,000 with tax included is the same price.
One saving: Korea refunds the VAT on room charges, for up to 30 nights, to foreign tourists travelling independently, at hotels designated under the scheme. Breakfast counts only if it is in the room rate, service charges are not refunded and package tours are excluded; designations change every quarter, so ask the hotel when you book. A tax-reform proposal reported in August 2026 would end the scheme on 30 June 2027; an April stay falls before that date, but confirm it with the hotel.
The rest of what moves your total is timing. A refundable rate costs nothing if the trees come early. A rate tied to a festival date can cost you if they do not.
Getting in from the airport, and around
- From Incheon Airport, the AREX express runs non-stop to Seoul Station in about 43 minutes from Terminal 1 and about 51 from Terminal 2, for ₩13,000, or ₩12,500 for AREX members. The all-stop train takes about 59 and 66 minutes and calls at Hongik University Station for Hongdae. For Yeouido, our reading of the network map is that the all-stop train to Gongdeok and a change to Line 5 gets you there; check the route in Seoul Metro’s planner before you travel.
- On the subway, Seoul Metro lists a base fare of ₩1,550 by transport card for the first 10 km, and ₩1,650 for a single-journey ticket. VisitKorea lists the Tmoney card and the Climate Card short-term pass, which gives unlimited bus and subway rides in Seoul for one to seven days, from ₩5,000 for a day to ₩20,000 for a week, plus ₩3,000 for the physical card. By our arithmetic, ignoring distance charges and transfers, the ₩5,000 day pass pays for itself after about four base fares. VisitKorea’s page may predate recent changes, so confirm the current passes on Seoul’s own pages. The line and change statements in this guide are our reading of the Seoul Metro network map; check the route in the planner before you travel.
- At the festivals, the Yeouido blossom road is about 1.7 km, and VisitKorea warns that the main section is restricted to traffic during the festival, with Yeouinaru Station (Line 5) and National Assembly Station (Line 9) the easy ways in. Seokchon Lake is 282 m from Exit 2 of Jamsil Station, on Lines 2 and 8, by Visit Seoul’s count.
Yeouido: under the trees
Yeouido is the blossom itself. VisitKorea counts 1,886 cherry trees along the Yunjung-ro blossom road, and the island has the Han River park beside it, so a hotel here means you can walk out to the trees at first light, before the festival crowds arrive, and be back for breakfast. Line 5 and Line 9 meet on the island, and Line 9 is the line to National Assembly Station. The trade-off is that evenings are quiet and Jamsil is a change and a long ride away.
Where to stay in Yeouido
How the hotel links work: a hotel’s name goes to its own website. “Check rates” opens it on Booking.com through our partner Stay22, which pays us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you.
- Fairmont Ambassador Seoul, splurge. 308 rooms and suites at 108 Yeoui-daero, on Yeouido, and its own site recommends riverside outings along Hangang Park in spring cherry blossom. Choose it to sleep on the island itself. Watch out: its site gives no walking time to Yunjung-ro, so check the map for your route. Check rates on Booking.com →
- Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Times Square, comfortable. A hotel inside the Times Square shopping and entertainment complex in Yeongdeungpo, which its site describes as a short subway ride from Itaewon and Myeongdong. Choose it for a mid-range base near Yeouido. Watch out: it is on the mainland, not the island, so allow a subway ride to the trees.
Jamsil and Songpa: the lake
Jamsil is where the Seokchon Lake festival happens, and it is the base that puts the lake closest: Visit Seoul puts the park 282 m from Exit 2 of Jamsil Station. The district is built around Lotte World and the Lotte World Tower, so it is modern and busy, with the palaces and the old city a long Line 2 ride away. Pick it if the lake is your main event, and plan Yeouido as a day trip with a change.
Where to stay in Jamsil and Songpa
- Lotte Hotel World, comfortable. At 240 Olympic-ro, a hotel its own site calls family-friendly, with a guest-only gate into Lotte World Adventure. Choose it for a Jamsil base beside the amusement park. Watch out: its site gives no walking time to the lake, so check the map. Check rates on Booking.com →
- Signiel Seoul, splurge. On the 76th to 101st floors of the Lotte World Tower at 300 Olympic-ro. Choose it for a high-floor splurge above Jamsil. Watch out: Jamsil is the furthest of these areas from the palaces. Check rates on Booking.com →
City Hall and Myeong-dong: the central base
This is the most flexible base for the two festivals. City Hall and Euljiro 1-ga are on Line 2, which runs direct to Jamsil and, with a change at Dangsan to Line 9, reaches Yeouido. Namsan is on the doorstep: Seoul’s city government lists the cherry trees along the Namsan Ring Road, by the cable car lot and around Seoul Tower, with the southern part of the ring road especially fine in bloom. The price is the crowd in Myeong-dong’s streets, which is the point of the place and the reason some people would rather sleep a district away.
Where to stay in City Hall and Myeong-dong
- The Grand Lotte Seoul, splurge. At 30 Eulji-ro, renamed in August 2026 from the Lotte Hotel Seoul. Choose it for a classic grand hotel on Line 2. Watch out: some booking sites still list it under the old name. Check rates on Booking.com →
- The Westin Josun Seoul, splurge. A hotel that dates its history to 1914, at 106 Sogong-ro, near City Hall, Myeongdong and Gwanghwamun, with Deoksugung and Gyeongbokgung close by. Choose it for history at a central address. Watch out: price in blossom week. Check rates on Booking.com →
- L7 Myeongdong by Lotte, comfortable. At 137 Toegye-ro, with a rooftop bar called Floating. Choose it for a lively mid-range base. Watch out: you are in the busiest streets in the district. Check rates on Booking.com →
- ibis Styles Ambassador Seoul Myeongdong, budget. 180 rooms at 302 Samil-daero, 400 m, about a six-minute walk, from Myeong-dong Station. Choose it for the lowest price in the middle of the city. Watch out: it is a walk from the station rather than at the exit, and its rooftop bar runs Monday to Saturday only.
Jongno and Insadong: the palaces and Line 5
Jongno is old Seoul, and it has blossom of its own: the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s May 2026 feature on Gyeongbokgung describes weeping cherry trees flowering beside the Gyeonghoeru pavilion. For the two big festivals, the useful fact is Line 5: it serves Jongno 3-ga and runs on to Yeouido, so Yeouido is a direct ride, while Jamsil needs one change.
Where to stay in Jongno and Insadong
- Nine Tree by Parnas Seoul Insadong, comfortable. At 49 Insadong-gil, within easy reach of Gyeongbokgung, Insadong, Gwanghwamun and Cheonggyecheon, its site says. Choose it for a central old-city base. Watch out: until recently it was called the Nine Tree Premier Hotel Insadong, and some booking sites still use that name. Check rates on Booking.com →
- ibis Ambassador Seoul Insadong, budget. 363 rooms at 31 Samil-daero 30-gil, 460 m, about seven minutes’ walk, from Jongno 3-ga station. Choose it for the cheapest way to reach Line 5 and the palaces. Watch out: the walk to the station, and a larger hotel than most on this list.
Hongdae and Mapo: nightlife and the airport train
Hongdae takes its name from Hongik University, and it has a student district’s energy: cafés, bars and live music that run late. Hongik University Station is where Line 2, the Gyeongui-Jungang line and the airport railroad meet, so the all-stop train from Incheon drops you here without a change, and Line 2 runs direct to Jamsil. Yeouido is one change away, at Dangsan. The Gyeongui Line Forest Park starts close to Exit 3 of the station, and Visit Seoul describes a quiet stretch of it among pines and cherry blossom at Saechanggogae. The trade-off is distance from the palaces and the noise that comes with the fun.
Where to stay in Hongdae and Mapo
- RYSE, Autograph Collection, comfortable to splurge. A boutique lifestyle hotel at 130 Yanghwa-ro, with three restaurants. Choose it for style in the middle of Hongdae. Watch out: late-night noise nearby. Check rates on Booking.com →
- L7 Hongdae by Lotte, comfortable. At 141 Yanghwa-ro, with a rooftop pool and a rooftop bar called Floating. Choose it for the airport train and Line 2 close by. Watch out: check whether the pool is open in April before you plan around it. Check rates on Booking.com →
Seongsu: the café district, with no hotel here
Seongsu is on Line 2, direct to Jamsil and, like Hongdae, one change from Yeouido. We found no official source for blossom at Seoul Forest, its park, and we could not confirm a hotel there on its own site, so we name none and cannot weigh it as a base for the blossom.
How to book for a season that moves
- Book a refundable rate now for the nights you want, then adjust when the forecasts appear in late winter. Check each rate’s cancellation deadline before you pay.
- Stay longer, not later. The window from the end of March to mid-April is wide; four or five nights give you better odds than two.
- Count the VAT. Ask whether a quoted rate includes it, and whether the hotel is in the VAT-refund scheme.
- Do not book around a festival date. In 2026 the trees at Yeouido peaked before its festival opened; the trees set the week, not the calendar.
- Compare totals across booking sites before you commit; our hotel booking sites compared explains how.

Frequently asked questions
When will the cherry blossoms bloom in Seoul in 2027?
No one knows yet. The KMA's normal is first flowers on 8 April and full bloom on 10 April; in 2025 the trees opened on 4 April and were full on 10 April, and in 2026 they opened on 29 March. Forecasts appear in late winter, so book a refundable room for the end of March to mid-April.
What is the best area to stay in Seoul for cherry blossom?
For both festivals from one base, City Hall and Myeong-dong: Line 2 runs direct to Jamsil for Seokchon Lake and Yeouido is one change away. Stay on Yeouido or in Jamsil to wake up beside the trees.
When are the Yeouido and Seokchon Lake cherry blossom festivals?
In 2026 the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival ran from 3 to 7 April and the Seokchon Lake festival from 3 to 11 April. The 2027 dates are not out yet and both districts fix them close to the season.
Does Seoul have a tourist tax on hotel rooms?
We found no separate city tourist tax on Seoul hotel rooms. Korea's value-added tax is 10 per cent, and some hotels quote rates including it. Independent foreign tourists can claim a VAT refund on room charges for up to 30 nights at designated hotels.
How do I get from Incheon Airport to my Seoul hotel?
The AREX express runs non-stop to Seoul Station in about 43 minutes from Terminal 1 and about 51 from Terminal 2, for ₩13,000 (₩12,500 for AREX members). The all-stop train takes about 59 and 66 minutes and calls at Hongik University Station for Hongdae.
How long should I stay to see the cherry blossoms in Seoul?
Four or five nights across the end of March and the first half of April give better odds than two. In 2026 the trees at Yeouido reached full bloom before the festival there opened, so the trees set the week, not the festival calendar.
